<p style="line-height: 1.5;">Your library card is non transferrable. You are responsible for all transactions on your card including computer access and loans.</p>

By joining the Barking and Dagenham library, you also have full membership rights to libraries in these local authorities (subject to terms in each local authority). <p>Theory Test Pro is a realistic online simulation of the UK&rsquo;s driving theory test. Free to use, it is suitable for anyone learning to drive a car, motorbike, passenger vehicle, or heavy goods vehicle. All the material is licensed from DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), which sets the test.</p>

<p>Library members can download digital books, comics, graphic novels, and audiobooks for all ages for free and read them on a computer, tablet, or mobile. And can also be accessed via the <a href="https://meet.libbyapp.com/">Libby eBook App</a> too.</p>

<p>Thank you for your interest in joining the LBBD Volunteering Team, helping residents in our community that need support and guidance. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, we have worked with local voluntary organisations to get support out to people that need it.</p>
<p>Volunteering for the council also offers the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, meet new people and it is a pathway towards seeking employment or further education.</p>

<h2>What is Social Prescribing?</h2>
<p>Social prescribing enables a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional to refer you to a specialist link worker to talk about the issues you are facing and find the right services to support you.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Link workers give people time, focusing on &lsquo;what matters to me&rsquo; and taking a holistic approach to people&rsquo;s health and wellbeing. They connect people to community groups and statutory services for practical and emotional support.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Social prescribing works for a wide range of people, including people:</p>
<ul>
<li>with one or more long-term conditions</li>
<li>who need support with their mental health</li>
<li>who are lonely or isolated</li>
<li>who have complex social needs which affect their wellbeing, i.e. money and debt issues, domestic abuse, employment</li>
</ul>

Elsie Lavender and Homer Hickam (the father of the author) were high school classmates in the West Virginia coalfields, graduating just as the Great Depression began. When Homer asked for her hand, Elsie instead headed to Orlando where she sparked with a dancing actor named Buddy Ebsen. But when Buddy headed for New York, Elsie's dreams of a life with him were crushed and eventually she found herself back in the coalfields, married to Homer. Unfulfilled as a miner's wife, Elsie was reminded of her carefree days with Buddy every day because of his unusual wedding gift: an alligator named Albert she raised in the only bathroom in the house.
