🎨 Library Card Design Competition

Calling all young artists aged 6 to 12! Design the next official Barking & Dagenham Library card based on one of two exciting themes:

  1. The Heritage of Barking & Dagenham
  2. The Future of Barking & Dagenham Libraries

The winning design will be professionally printed and used as the borough’s library card. Deadline: Friday, 31 October 2025.

Brief Details: 

  1. Open to children aged 6 to 12.
  2. Must be a member of Barking and Dagenham Libraries. 
  3. Not a member? Join Now or visit your local library.
  4. Choose one of the two themes: Heritage of Barking & Dagenham or Libraries in the Future.
  5. Design must be clear and suitable for printing on a standard card size (86.5 x 54mm).
  6. Entries must include child’s full name and parent/guardian’s name, address and contact number.
  7. Submit artwork by email to Universal.External@lbbd.gov.uk by Friday,  31 October 2025. Please include child’s full name, age, school, parent/guardian/carer’s name, contact number and full address.
  8. Winning design may be adjusted by our in-house design team for print suitability.
  9. The winning design will be used on Barking & Dagenham library cards.

Library Card Design Competition – 2025

  1. Eligibility: The competition is open to children aged 6 to 12 who live or attend school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and also a member of Barking and Dagenham Libraries. Not a member? Join Now or visit your local library.
  2. Themes: Entrants are invited to submit one original design based on one of the following themes:
  3. • The Heritage of Barking & Dagenham
    • Barking & Dagenham Libraries in the Future
  4. Design Specifications: Designs should be suitable for a library card the size of a standard bank card: 86.5mm x 54mm (thickness 0.76mm). Keep the artwork simple and bold so it remains legible at small size. Digital or hand-drawn entries are accepted.
  5. Adjustments for Print: The in-house Communications and Design team may adjust the winning design to ensure print suitability. Adjustments may include resizing, repositioning, or refining design elements.
  6. Submission Details: Entries must include the child’s full name, age and school as well as the parent or guardian’s name, address, and contact phone number. Email entries to: Universal.External@lbbd.gov.uk
  7. Deadline and Results: The deadline for submissions is Friday, 31 October 2025. Results will be announced the week beginning Monday, 17 November 2025.
  8. Judging: Entries will be judged by a panel. Judging will be based on creativity, relevance to theme, and how well the design works on a small card.
  9. Prize: The winning design will be printed and distributed as the official Barking & Dagenham Library card. The winner may be invited to an official launch event.
  10. Copyright: The design must be original. By entering, the child and their parent/guardian/carer grant Barking and Dagenham Council permission to reproduce the artwork on library cards and promotional materials.
  11. Changes to the Terms & Conditions: Barking and Dagenham Council reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions without prior notice.
