Digital Inclusion Project

Supporting Barking and Dagenham residents with devices, data and digital skills

Launched on 27 January 2026 at Barking Learning Centre Community and Family Hub, the Digital Inclusion Project is a pioneering partnership between Ekota Academy and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Libraries.

Together, we are transforming libraries into Digital Inclusion Hubs, making it easier for residents to get online, build confidence with technology and access essential digital resources.

The programme is fully funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

Library Membership

To take part in the Digital Inclusion Project, residents must be library members. Library membership is free, and joining only takes a few minutes.

If you're not already a member, you can sign up at any participating library or online.
Membership allows you to:

  • Attend digital skills classes
  • Borrow a laptop or tablet
  • Access free data packages
  • Use library computers and Wi‑Fi
  • Join other library services and activities

If you’re not a member yet, simply speak to staff at any library and we will help you join or click here to join online.

What We’re Providing

Our comprehensive support package includes:

Digital Skills Training: Free classes for beginners and those looking to improve their digital confidence.

Volunteer Digital Champions: Friendly, trained volunteers offering hands‑on help with daily digital tasks.

Free Data Packages: 1,200 free data packages for residents who need support staying connected.

Device Loan Scheme: Access to 720 laptops and tablets available to borrow through our libraries.

What Is Digital Inclusion?

Digital inclusion means ensuring that everyone - regardless of age, background or experience - can use technology confidently, safely, and independently.

It includes having:

  • The skills to navigate the online world
  • The devices needed to learn, work, and connect
  • The internet access required to stay online

A digitally included community can apply for jobs, access public services, help children with schoolwork, stay in touch with family, continue learning and manage everyday tasks online.

Who We Support

Our project is open to all Barking and Dagenham residents, especially:

  • Residents building digital skills for work or job applications
  • Parents and carers supporting children with online learning
  • Older adults who want to feel more comfortable with technology
  • Anyone who wants to learn how to stay safe and confident online
To take part, residents must be library members - joining is free and only takes a few minutes. If you’re not a member yet, our staff can help you sign up at your local library.

Everyone is welcome - no previous digital experience needed.
